Inspiration for the piece:

When I was given the theme idea for our final project, the first thought that came to mind was how art frees my heart. Free from sorrow, sadness, anger and fear. From the prisons I put myself in mentally and physically. Free from holding on to the pain death has carved in my life. My heart says I'm free and I believe it.

What role does art play in your life?

Art is my solace, my best friend and my go to when the world doesn't make sense. My culture inspires me a lot, my world experiences also help me to put thoughts into pictures/drawings.

Artist statement:

Art opens my heart and soul and speaks a language that my mouth sometimes isn't able to express. One that everyone can understand in their own way. What means something to me may mean something totally different to another person. That is the beauty of creation and expression. My art is me being vulnerable in a way that isn't always easy for me to show. I can be my truest self while I am creating and exploring all that art can offer.
