Film screening and panel discussion
Saturday, March 29th: Art and Wellness
Led by our returning neighbors—artists who have re-entered the community after incarceration. They guided participants through a hands-on art and wellness activity that highlighted the healing power of creativity and self-expression.
Sunday, April 13th: Art, Incarceration, and Healing: A Conversation with Dr. Dave Gussak
There was a compelling panel discussion on the intersection of art, wellness, and criminal justice reform, featuring national expert Dr. Dave Gussak, Professor of Art Therapy at Florida State University and art and wellness facilitators of AFTI's first Art and Wellness program at two state correctional facilities. Dr. Gussak, a leading voice on the intersection of art and incarceration, shared insights on how creative expression can reshape identities, foster rehabilitation, and transform correctional environments.
This work is funded in part by MHC with money from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund that was created with the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
JUSTICE RE-FORMED
2024
Art from the Inside was thrilled to produce the much-anticipated 2024 exhibition, "JUSTICE RE-FORMED," a groundbreaking art exhibit featuring the extraordinary works of our incarcerated artists. Hosted at Minnesota Attorney General's Office, this unique showcase aims to bridge the gap between the legal system and the world of art, bringing forth a powerful narrative of resilience, creativity, and transformation. Experience the art and examine the complex reality of JUSTICE through new frames.
Identity, Part 2

Identity can be defined as “the qualities, beliefs, personality traits, appearance, and/or expressions that characterize a person or group”. In the most recent exhibit, the artists explored the construction and interpretation of how we see ourselves as individuals and how we see each other.
I was...I AM...I will be...
Many of the great pieces from IDENTITY 2 were also featured at Unity Church. See the gallery here.

Identity, part 1
2022
Identity can be defined as "the qualities, beliefs, personality traits, appearance, and/or expressions that characterize a person or group." In this exhibit, the artists explore the construction and interpretation of how we see ourselves as individuals and how we see each other. The question “Who am I?” asks us all to consider the relationship between the individual and society.

Transformation
2021
Artists in this exhibition are a combination of male artists from the Stillwater facility and female artists from the Shakopee facility. New to this exhibit is wearable art pieces such as a sweater, blanket, and necklaces. Artist creations are reflections of their visual interpretation of transformation in their lives and the world around them. We hope you are just as inspired as we are.
