After The Fire by Lux Thunberg
Pencil and acrylic paint
Meet the artist: Lux Thunberg
If my heart could speak, it would speak of what remains after the fire.
The reaching hand stands in the aftermath... not as rescue, but as resolve. Destruction changes us, but it does not remove our power to shape what comes next.
Rebuilding is a choice.

Art is a big part of my life. I find art in the color of fall leaves and the lyrics in music. What inspires me to create art the most is my pain. Being here in Shakopee has been full of pain and my creativity is sentient!
I see myself as vulnerable and emotional. These two things were things I never wanted to be but the more mature I got, the more I love and accept. I want to be seen for the good (light) in me and not judged for the darkness that dwells inside too. Voting for same sex marriages informed a form of equality. Marching for George Floyd informed me of a right to exist. Being incarcerated informed me that all of us are vulnerable with emotions of sameness.

When I think of all the different components of one’s self, it’s continuous. We never stop shedding layers, or breaking chains. Sometimes we need our masks to cover the truth. Sky’s the limit. And it doesn’t matter how much time it takes to reach it.
