INSPIRATION

I am Slavic (paternal grandparents). I recently learned that the word “slave” is derived from the capture and forced labor of “Slavs,” or the Slavic people. I am also incarcerated, and I feel like I’ve been trapped in a cage, numb to the world around, most of my life. I did not even choose to come to Minnesota, yet I’m still here. Each character in my project is “Micuda,” or “Me.” I am in a cage, I am chained, I want to be free (in all aspects). I am holding me back. I also wonder if my traits are ingrained in my blood, just like the traits of dogs are bred? Perhaps my docile, workaholic, etc. traits stem from my ancestors that were slaves? It also now makes sense why there are similar “Micuda” names in other parts of the world - Michael, Macado, Michuba (French, Spanish, African). I will have to research if we are all descendants.
