Arctic Mountain by Shawn K. Odneal

Arctic Mountain

Oil paint on canvas

During my stint in the US Army, I was stationed at Fort Richardson outside of Anchorage, Alaska. Like Bob Ross, who spent time in Alaska in service, I found many of the sub-arctic scenes there to be amazing.

Identity Statement

I see myself as a very individualistic person. I march to my own drumbeat, which is guided by my strong values and can-do attitude. I am not sure how people view me, nor do I particularly worry about how I am viewed. I only hope that other view me as a person who is worthy of basic human respect and dignity.

What role does art play in your life?

To me, painting is therapeutic. When I paint, I am in a place that is peaceful and nothing else matters. When I was a kid, I used to be amazed watching Bob Ross paint, and still am to this day. It was his style and encouragement to everyone that got me started.
