Why do you use the medium you use?

I use Acrylic because I use a painting technique called "Action Painting".  My image takes on severe permutations - paint over paint.  Acrylic is the only medium that allows itself to be controlled and molded.  It's also the only medium that allows an artist to paint dark to light and doesn't force the artist into planning an eventual outcome.

What role does art play in your life?

My art work are my kids!  Since I can't have any, my art is the best I have to to contribute to the world.  It serves to transform and bring needed conversation or wordless acknowledgement through shapes, color, subjects and hidden messages.  Like children, I hope they can pass on the best of me while I'm gone.

What inspires you to create?

Ronnie Jones, Dios, music - Native, my spiritual practices, my desire to make in imagery what I cannot express in words.  All my music, multiple cultural influences.  It's something I do that has always made my parents proud, even when I fail at other things.  I always dreamed of my art making me remembered when I pass on.

Transformation Statement

Transformation doesn't always start out completely positive.  A lot of times once transformation forces itself out of necessity it starts out as anger, rage and depression.  It's okay to acknowledge that as long as you use that constructively to make yourself and/or the situation better.  If mistakes were made during the initial phase of a negative response, it's important to make restorative efforts and pick up from there to become what you need to for improvement.  Even when nature destroys it gets used as a chance to start over.  My hope is that by making an example of a transformation of myself maybe it can lead greater society into a social transformation of one enlightenment, not a 2-party struggle.
