As Shifting Perspectives comes to a close, we invite you to join us for one final gathering to reflect, connect, and celebrate the artists whose work has challenged us to see justice—and each other—through a new lens.

Our Closing Reception on Sunday, April 27 from 3:00–4:30 PM will be a space for community reflection, meaningful conversation, and honoring the transformative impact of this exhibit. You’ll also have the opportunity to support the artists by purchasing their work.

📍 And if you’re attending the St. Paul Art Crawl, stop by our booth from April 25–27 at the Schmidt Artists Lofts! We’ll be sharing new work and selling prints by our returning neighbors and connecting with the broader creative community. We’d love to see you there!

The inspiration for this piece is America as the promised land it once was. A safe haven of opportunity for those in the pursuit of happiness. The example to the world that humanity and progress exist. My connection to this piece lies in solidarity with all women around the world who are brutalized, marginalized, and overlooked.

We've been going through a lot and feel as though I'm drowning in all my sadness and nobody seems to notice until it's too late or I'm already deep into my depression. So, I wanted to do this painting to connect with anyone who feels at their lowest and I want them to know they are not alone.

The right side of this piece represents how God has continued to bless my life; from giving me a second chance, to having a supportive family, maintaining a rewarding job and most of all, giving me peace and joy and even freedom behind bars. The left side isn't necessarily dying, except for that branch on the ground, which actually represents my shame and the lies the devil has tried to make me believe about myself. I let that part go through the power of Christ.

Illusionary Perspective by Amanda Peltier

At first glance, it's a butterfly on a tree. Or perhaps a tiger or a bird. But if you look at it from another angle, it's two faces looking at each other. It resembles our connection to nature and our connection to perspective. Do we really see each other or are we missing the truth in what we are looking at because we can't see it through our own perspective? Can we look at the same thing more than once and see things completely differently because our perspective has changed? Perspective is illusionary. It can be what stands in the way of us seeing what we are supposed to see.
